IdeaDuring this course the students will be introduced to the materials used in the creation of a fresco using the medieval and renaissance technique applied by the old masters. They can also express their own ideas in a sketch using new techniques. The knowledge acquired will be put in use through the execution of one or more paintings. This course can be combined with an Italian language course in the morning find details here. Program: Theoretical Part:
■ History of Fresco
■ Technology of materials: plaster, sand
■ Pigment: natural and chemical composition of the colours
■ Technical phases. From phehistoric to present times
■ The chemistry of Fresco – ‘carbonatazione’
Practical Part:
■ Preparation of the design
■ Preparation of the supports
■ Copy of the drawing in the wall with powder technique
■ Preparation of colours
■ Fresco “Buonfresco” techniques according to Giotto in comparison with other methods following after
■ Drying process
Accomodations in the program will be made for students with varying degrees of experience.
Visits to museums and exhibitions will round off the course.
